The Garden
Watching a loved one suffer with Alzheimer’s Disease can be difficult. We realize moving a loved one to a special care unit can be even harder. We are here to help at this difficult time in both of your lives.
Brookcrest’s special care unit, “The Garden,” is designed to meet the unique needs of people in the late second and third stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as the needs of their families. We provide a comfortable and therapeutic setting through:
- Environment: A home-like atmosphere, limited noise and traffic, controlled stimulation throughout the day, access to outdoor courtyard and garden.
- Programming: Individualized to a resident's previous lifestyle and interests; physical, social, cognitive, emotional, creative, and spiritual activities are specially designed to fit the needs of individuals with dementia.
- Quality Care: Interdisciplinary team of professionals working to provide the highest quality of care, while promoting dignity and respect. Each member of the team completes comprehensive training in dementia and provision of quality care.
- Quality Staff: Including Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Social Worker, Recreation Therapist, Dietician, and Skilled Therapists with specialized training to optimize resident independence and success. Families and the community are also partners in caring.
Clients appropriate for the garden present the following conditions:
- Physician's diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease or other irreversible dementia
- Stabilized medical condition
- Ability to benefit from specialized programming and environment
- Ability to respond in some way to interactions and environment
- Cognitive ability to rate minimally at a late 2nd stage of dementia
- Need for assistance, direction, and supervision with activities of daily living and safety
- Lack of unstable psychiatric disorders
- Absence of behaviors that cause harm to self or others.
