Brookcrest offers programs to help you become as mobile and independent as possible.  We are committed to getting you back to community living and embrace your life again.  We provide in-patient rehabilitation for:

  • Bone Fractures
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Joint Replacements
  • Pneumonia
  • Shoulder/Back Surgery
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Bacterial Infections (Cellulitis)
  • Stroke
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Kidney Failure (Renal Disease)

Our goal is to keep our patients functioning at the level they were before entering the hospital.  We also recognize the importance of family in the healing process, so relatives are welcomed and highly encouraged to spend time with their loved one.

Therapy Services

Rehab at Brookcrest involves one-on-one therapy with the same therapist so you can get to know each other which has been shown to speed recovery time and make rehab a more rewarding experience.

Brookcrest is among the top 5% of rehab facilities with the highest staff to patient ratios in Michigan so you’ll be working closely with someone who is focused on your goals.

Therapy services are available 6 days per week and include:

Physical Therapy is rehabilitation “below the waist”.  It helps with activities like walking, getting out of bed, and keeping your balance.  Physical Therapy services also include

  • Mobility & strength training
  • Exercises to increase functional range, balance & coordination
  • Gait and transfer training
  • Wheelchair/walker management
  • Prosthetic training
  • Client/care-giver education
  • Pain Management

Occupational Therapy is rehabilitation “above the waist.”  It helps with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) like dressing, grooming, eating, and cleaning.  Occupational Therapy services also include:

  • ADL evaluations
  • Cognitive status evaluations
  • Therapeutic exercise programs
  • Perceptual motor & visual deficit training
  • Adaptive equipment management & education
  • Home safety & modification education
  • Energy conservation & work simplification education
  • Upper extremity splinting, positioning, joint protection
  • Sensory/fine motor upper extremity deficit training

Speech Language Pathology helps with speech, hearing and swallowing.  Speech Language Pathology services also include:

  • Swallowing assessment & training
  • Articulation, language education
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Exercises to strengthen oral-motor movements
  • Dysphagia therapy (difficulty swallowing after a stroke)
  • Cognitive retraining
  • Aphasia therapy (a defect or loss of the power of expression by speech) 

Recreational Therapy focuses on healing through social interaction by using recreation and leisure.  Recreational Therapy services include:

  • Music 
  • Games (including the Wii)
  • Crafts
  • Studies
  • Community Outings
