Volunteer Services Mission
In an endeavor to support the Sunset Association's mission statement, the Brookcrest Volunteer Services Department provides a variety of service opportunities for community members, schools, churches, residents, family members and others interested in volunteering.

At Brookcrest, we strive to provide the highest quality of life for our residents. We believe that in order to better meet the needs of residents, volunteers must be a significant and vital part of our organization. Volunteers provide an added quality of life and touch residents' lives in ways beyond the care provided by staff. Residents benefit in many ways from a volunteer's time and love.

Resident companionship is always our greatest need. Residents love to have a volunteer spending one-on-one time with them, reminiscing, reading, and playing games. While this role is always needed, we do have a variety of volunteer positions available.

Volunteer Positions Available:

• Group Activity Assistance/Leadership
  • Description: leading or helping to lead an activity with two or more residents.
  • Days: Monday through Sunday
  • Times: 9:15 - 11am, 2pm - 5pm, and 6:30pm - 8pm
• Clerical Work
  • Description: Shredding, labeling, mailings
  • Monday through Sunday
  • Times: Open
•   Receptionist
  • Description: Answering and dispatching telephones, greeting visitors, directing to rooms, visiting with residents
  • Days: Saturday and Sunday
  • Times: 9am - 8pm (or portion of)
• Mail Delivery
  • Description: Delivering mail to residents, may include helping residents to open or read as necessary.
  • Days: Monday through Saturday
  • Times: Between 3pm and 7pm
• Entertainers
  • Description: Musicians, Storytellers, Singers
  • Days: Monday through Sunday
  • Times: 10am - 12pm, 2pm - 4pm, and 6:30pm - 8pm
• Stock Delivery
  • Description: Working with purchasing director to stock medical units with necessary supplies
  • Days: Monday through Friday
  • Times: 7pm - 2pm
• Pet Visits
  • Description: Bringing in your animal to visit with residents. We recommend well-trained, tame dogs. Must be on a leash, up-to-date on shots and vaccinations, and react well around other animals, children and people.
  • Days: Monday through Sunday
  • Times: 8:30am - 8pm
• Feeding
  • Description: Setting up meal trays, giving cues and helping residents eat
  • Days: Monday through Sunday
  • 7am - 8:30am, 11:30am - 1pm, and 4:30pm - 6:30pm
• Resident Companion
  • Description: Spending time one-on-one or in a small group socializing, reminiscing, reading to, taking for wheelchair rides and playing games with residents.
  • Days: Monday through Sunday
  • Times 10am - 8pm (or portion of)

• Resident Companion on Dementia Unit
  • Monday - Sunday
  • 2pm - 8pm (or portion of)

Requirements:

• Application and Interview Completed
• Acceptable Criminal Background Check
• 2 Step Negative TB Test - Proof of 2 completed within the last year, or have completed at Brookcrest (Service provided at Brookcrest free of charge to our volunteers)
• At least 14 years old, or accompanied by an Adult with all visits
• One hour per week, for a minimum of 3 months
• Additional training required for feeding, Brookcrest to provide.
